"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years." - Abraham Lincoln

The day after our London town outing, we strolled back alongside the Thames heading again for Tower Bridge, this time for the start of the Santa in the City Race, in which I was a participant! The green grass in front of Tower Bridge looked rather festive with the many Santas, all ready waiting to start the race!

I collected my Santa suit, and donned it right there, pulling it on over my day clothes…it was a one size fits all so went on comfortably, and adjusted at the belt and pants tie.   I was ready, and waiting. About the willing part….I wasn’t too sure about that but it would be fun, even if I walked the route, and it was for a good cause!

As the runners all lined up, I mentioned to an official that I’d come all the way from sunny SA to do this race and got an announcement and round of applause for my troubles. Up went the starters gun, a loud ‘bang’, away went the runners. I had elected to keep my camera bag with me, along with its somewhat heavy contents of two cameras and a couple of lenses so wasn’t at the front for very long, but that suited me as I could stop and take photos of the scenes along the route.

Selfie with a difference! Reflection in a shop front window!

Two views of The Shard – one looking as if it is coming out the top of one of the towers of the London Tower!

I made sure I got photos of the distance markers but missed

the 3km one and by the time I got to 4kms, I was exhausted

and when I saw the 4 and not a 3, I was thrilled!

My sister waited at a few places along the route to get photographic evidence, as well as waiting for me at the finish line – which was finally in sight – almost home & dry!

I realized while running/walking that the last time I had run a race of any sort was over 27 years ago!!

I got my medal, caught my breath, and we went walkabout again, until late in the evening, when it was again time to head for the train and home.

My bed was calling, very loudly too!

A fun day out!
