Day four heralded cloudy skies again, so while my granddaughter headed to the beach with her parents, my grandson and I walked along the shoreline near the resort.

I taught him how to build rock-balancing sculptures and we did some macro photography.

He was quite chuffed when some other walkers pointed out a fish eagle perching in the nearby trees, while we were sitting on the beach, chilling and just watching the waves.

Day five was pack-up day and enroute home, we stopped at the world’s smallest church, Llandaff Oratory in Van Reenen. The oratory was built by Maynard Mathews in memory of his son Llandaff Mathews who died while saving the lives of eight colleagues at the Burnside Colliery mine in 1925. The oratory seats eight people, the same number of people Llandaff saved in the mine accident, and is architecturally based on a wing of Cardiff Cathedral in Wales.

We had tea in the gardens overlooking the Drakensberg mountains that form the border between Natal and Free State; then took to the road and headed for home again. A fabulous holiday with wonderful memories made.

After a few days back home, time came to say farewell again, and head for the last part of my holiday – and a huge surprise for my daughter and grandson in Qatar. Only my son-in-law knew I was coming! More memories to be made!

Another bench you could of brought back for me!!
Deep concentration on the rock balancing.
We’ve passed that church many a time on our way to and from Durban, but never stopped to look inside.
