Having family in Cape Town, I had to go visit before I left SA again as I would be gone for a year this time.

A quick 4 day visit but I got see my daughter and both my sisters. Sadly no time to see friends, so I’ll just have to go back for a longer time next year!

First afternoon there was spent at a Food & Wine Fair with my littlest sister, her 2 kiddies and my daughter. Some yummy wine tasted and some excellent cheese and olives consumed.

I spent a fair bit of time, spread out over 2 days, wandering around Kirstenbosch Gardens, remembering that the last time I was here was 2 years ago, walking around with my Dad. I must look at having a memorial bench installed for him as he requested of me at the time.

And then all too quickly it was time to head back to JHB and do the final planning for my jaunt around Europe.

I took a walk along the “Cobra” treetop pathway that snakes its way across a part of the gardens.

A great view to be had but the pathway is disappointingly short.

The same pond, from 2 very different angles – real and reflected – made for interesting images!

Having the time to spare, I spent a couple of hours photographing the sunbirds, flitting about in and out of the bushes in search of the sweet nectar they feed on. They move so fast that focusing on them is not the easiest task!

The floral displays within the gardens are

always stunning, no matter the season, and I

took the time to really ‘stop and smell the roses’ on this visit, and test out my newly acquired macro lens rings.

Having a zoom lens handy gave me the opportunity to photograph the little creatures and as I have long been trying to get photos of bees on flowers, with just a few successes, I took the opportunity as they were in abundance here. The little insects move so fast that focussing on them takes time,                                               patience and concentration. Time I had plenty of; patience I am not so                                             sure about but I got a few relatively good images.
